PSL 12 Direct Signings: The New Marquee Player Rule
The direct signing window opened on Friday, 23 October 2026 and closes on Monday, 23 November 2026. During this month, each of the eight franchises can sign one marquee player outright, without going through the auction.
There is one condition: the player must not have played in either PSL 10 (2025) or PSL 11 (2026). That is stricter than last year, when teams could directly sign one overseas player who simply had not featured in the previous season. By looking back two seasons instead of one, the PCB is pushing franchises to bring genuinely fresh names into the league rather than re-signing familiar faces outside the auction.
Expect the eight teams to chase big overseas stars who have been busy in other leagues over the last two years. Any signings should be announced before the 23 November deadline – we will add them to the PSL 2027 squads page as soon as they are confirmed.
PSL 12 Retention Rules and Deadline
- Up to seven retentions: each franchise can keep a maximum of seven players for PSL 12.
- Two-year contracts: players bought or retained at the PSL 11 auction signed deals covering both PSL 11 and PSL 12, so most squads are already largely in place.
- Retention deadline: not yet officially announced. According to an Express Tribune report on the 22 October Governing Council meeting, the PCB has proposed 13 January 2027 – ten days before the auction. One owner reportedly asked for retentions to be brought forward to December.
- Pre-auction trade window: dates will be finalised at the franchise workshop.
PSL 12 Salary Purse and Player Categories
The same report says each franchise has a base player purse of US$1.6 million, which can rise to US$1.8 million to make room for an eligible overseas signing. Player salaries are split into four tiers: up to US$150,000, US$80,000, US$40,000 and US$21,500. The PCB also reportedly rejected a franchise owner’s proposal to cut the salaries of Pakistani players.

Where Will the PSL 12 Auction Be Held?
The PCB has not announced the venue or start time yet. The first PSL auction was held in Lahore on 11 February 2026. Reports say one franchise owner suggested staging the PSL 12 auction in China, but no decision has been made. We will update this article as soon as the venue is confirmed.
PSL 12 Venues: More Cities, Final in Lahore
PSL 12 will feature 44 matches over 46 days – 40 league games and four playoffs – spread across five to six venues, the widest spread the PCB has planned for the league. The final will be played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on 2 May 2027.
Scheduling has one extra challenge: the South Asian Games are set for 4–11 April 2027 in Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar, and reports say PSL matches will avoid those three cities during that week. Domestic T20 Events Will Feed the Auction
The PCB has lined up its domestic calendar with the PSL pre-season. The National T20 Gold and National T20 Silver tournaments will be the main talent-spotting events before the auction, giving strong domestic performers a route into franchise cricket and, possibly, the national team. The board has also shared details of promising school cricketers with the franchises and encouraged them to invest in young talent.
